Nobody wants to deal with dry skin; it doesn’t matter if it’s in the workplace, on a date, or even relaxing around the house. Dry skin can be irritating on multiple levels. As we enter the winter months, dry skin is common as the lower temperature and even exposure to precipitation can have an adverse effect on our skin. With the issue being so common, the question then becomes how can we prevent such an annoying problem? These days there are all types of methods being suggested by others, but in this piece, we’re going to give four ways to moisturize your skin and keep the dryness away.
The Importance of Your Diet
The first thing the majority of us think of when we see dry skin is that we need a product to moisturize it immediately. One of the last facets we think of when discussing dry skin is our diet. However, studies have shown a direct correlation between obesity and dry skin. The solution? Consider creating a personalized weight loss plan as it can allow you to cater your food plan directly to your needs, balancing weight loss, which will help your skin naturally, with a diet that is also conducive to better skin.
Such a plan would mean you can vary food and use vegetables, fruit, and healthy meats as you see fit, not only to fight obesity but also sticking to things you like. You should avoid processed foods and those high in sugar or refined carbohydrates and replace them with natural and/or organic foods. Healthy foods like bananas, salmon, tomatoes, and the like give your skin the nutrients it needs to keep your face bright and vibrant. Now, this isn’t to say that one should completely remove fat from their diet; quite the contrary, the skin needs some fatty acids to keep itself healthy. Nuts and seeds are prime and underrated examples of foods that provide the body with the fats it needs.
Drink Plenty of Water
As the winter months settle in, our skin is constantly at battle with the natural elements of nature, thus making it hard to keep it moisturized on a consistent basis without help. One of the easiest ways to keep your skin healthy is by drinking water. First off, regardless of skin status, we should all be drinking eight glasses a day for our health, but drinking water also helps the skin pull fluid from our blood flow. Some of us are walking around, working, and going about our days dehydrated without really even knowing, but dehydration can be dangerous for the skin. We strongly suggest staying on top of your eight glasses a day but also staying away from beverages like coffee which can dehydrate the skin.
Use a Moisturizer
Some people believe that washing their face and staying hydrated are all it takes to have healthy skin. This could not be further from the truth; along with the elements we mentioned earlier, our body produces oils that can create problems for the skin. Experts will say that it’s worth it to moisturize twice a day but also after a hot shower as the heat strips our skin of a lot of the essential moisture and oils we need.
Use Shea Butter
As a little bonus tip, consider adding shea butter to your skincare regimen. Yes, there are plenty of lotions out there offering moisture and vitamins for your skin, but shea butter is the Queen that rules them all. Shea butter has gentle and nourishing ingredients to make sure your skin is getting moisturized while simultaneously giving it essential vitamins to keep it feeling young. Shea butter has also been proven to reduce redness and irritation, especially in cold weather. People have been swearing by shea butter since the 14th Century, now’s the time to add it to your daily skincare routine; you won’t regret it.
